Restylane® and Juvederm® and other wrinkle fillers

The body naturally produces hyaluronic acid that adds volume and smoothness to skin. Restylane® and Juvederm® are hyaluronic acid gels that can be used to fill moderate facial wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth). Treatments typically last for about 8 to 12 months and can also be used on the lips, cheeks, temples, and other areas of the face, and even on the backs of the hands. Radiesse® consists of smooth calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres. It can be used all over the face and in the hands to volumize tissue. Sculptra® is poly-L-lactic acid, another volumizer which works by stimulating tissues to produce collagen. Other wrinkle fillers continue to be developed. Drs. William and Patrick Coleman have served as clinical investigators for several other fillers pending FDA approval.
